Healthcare Executive Placements, Inc. (HCEPInc) is seeking an Interim Assistant Nurse Manager for a W2 Contract position based in Oakland, CA.
Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm (some on‑call anticipated)
Assignment Duration: 13 weeks
Compensation:
- Daily rate: $685 to $700 ($3,425 to $3,500 per week, 5‑day workweek)
- Per Diems:
Lodging $145/day, Meals & Incidents $92/day, totaling $1,659 per week - Auto Stipend: $25 per day, totaling $175 per week
- Total weekly compensation: $5,234 to $5,334 per week
Benefits: Paid sick leave, paid holidays, co‑paid medical/dental/vision insurance, cafeteria plan access, and 401(k) retirement plan.
SummaryThe Assistant Nurse Manager of Utilization Review and Discharge Planning supports the Nurse Manager in overseeing operations related to care coordination, discharge planning, and utilization management. The role ensures appropriate resource use, timely patient transitions, and compliance with regulatory requirements while fostering collaboration across interdisciplinary teams.
Essential Functions- Provide leadership and supervision for utilization review and discharge planning functions.
- Monitor patient care plans to ensure efficient use of hospital resources, appropriate length of stay, and alignment with payer requirements.
- Oversee discharge planning activities, coordinating with physicians, nurses, social workers, and community resources to ensure safe and timely patient transitions.
- Review clinical documentation and collaborate with care teams to support medical necessity and regulatory compliance.
- Support staff development through mentoring, coaching, and professional growth opportunities.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on care coordination, readmission reduction, and discharge efficiency.
- Collaborate with case management, finance, and insurance representatives to address utilization concerns and resolve barriers to care.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, and performance evaluations for team members in the department.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and patient‑centered care across the organization.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or BA in a healthcare‑related field required;
Master's degree preferred. - Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Minimum 3–4 years of clinical nursing experience relevant to utilization review, discharge planning, or care coordination.
- At least 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience required.
- Strong knowledge of discharge planning standards, medical necessity criteria, and payer regulations.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and external partners to achieve patient‑centered outcomes.
