PositionSummary
Electrician – hourly position (rate: $29.26
/hr). Works individually or as part of a multiskilled crew to install, test, and maintain electrical systems on naval shipyards and marine facilities.
- Comply with all craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures.
- Plan and perform work according to project specifications, working drawings, and blueprints.
- Test equipment, use hand and power tools safely, and maintain tool condition.
- Follow project standards, policies, and procedures, and communicate direction with shift personnel to keep workflow efficient.
- Execute similar tasks throughout the yard as the job requires.
- Provide optional assistance with heavy equipment when needed.
- Communicate effectively; work independently or in a group.
- Perform basic math (add,, divide, multiply).
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- Understand AC and DC electrical theory, power generation, control, and distribution.
- Use test equipment and reading/laying blueprints.
- Fabricate and install cable transits, conduit, raceways, and bend conduit.
- Install and control electric motors, alarms, and interior communications.
- Reason to find solutions and adapt to changing environments.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Two years of relevant work experience.
- Strong work history or applicable education may substitute work experience.
- Complete on‑the‑job training as required per project.
- Continual standing, walking, and fine motor skills for tool and machinery operation.
- Lift, carry up to 60 lbs; may require assistance with heavy equipment.
- Twist, turn, bend, climb, and walk over uneven surfaces.
- Stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb as needed.
- Work mostly indoors but may be exposed to external weather conditions.
- Use safety equipment and maintain depth perception.
- Vision at or near 20 inches required.
- Shop environment with running machinery and noise of varying degrees.
- Exposure to chemicals, coolants, greases, solvents, petroleum, vapors, and fumes.
- Proper PPE will be provided as necessary.
Interact/communicate with others, work alone or independently, and may direct or supervise others according to level of position.
