This contract Software Programmer 2 assignment will support the Company’s Software Infrastructure and Support Services organization (JDT). This group provides products and specialized technical support directed toward real time operation of the transmission system, application services support, and critical operating information necessary for other Company functions to carry out their duties. The PI Team within JDT supports data historians and provides analytical support for Company’s Operations Engineering group along with other departments in the agency.

Data collected, compiled and amassed by the PI system is very dynamic and supports critical functions such as Dispatch. The PI administrator will support a high availability implementation of PI.

The ideal candidate would keep abreast of industry developments regarding appropriate network system infrastructure technology and sustain a high-level of attention to detail in preventing accidental system outages or problems.

JDT provides planning, analysis, engineering, design, project management and maintenance support for systems used within the Control Center environment required to support the operation of an interconnected utility. The team is collaborative and transparent in how they work. They follow a compliance calendar that has a standard cadence but have to be agile for emergency work as well. This position will gain knowledge and insight of strict regulatory requirements related to Federal Critical Assets.

The best in this position remain agile to change. The position is predominantly sedentary.

• Maintain server systems (including clusters) with minimal impact to customers.
• Write operational procedures for computer operators, computer system monitors (CSM), software staff, and other users as required.
• Provide technical assistance and training to the operators, CSM’s, and hardware and software staff.
• Plan and coordinate projects and design software so that new operating requirements can be added while verifying the continuous availability of the existing system.
• Large and Small Project Participation – may be assigned to project teams to provide expertise, recommendations, and assistance on software programming / developer components for large projects; or may be assigned smaller projects to carry out from cradle to grave. Project work may include:
• Provide input and recommendations to project teams on programming / software solutions for large project(s)
• Provide advice and recommendations to project teams on programming / software components of large project(s)
• Plan / develop and recommend software projects for the manager consideration, such as the automation of routines
• Collaborate with stakeholders and users to help define or refine programming / scripting needs, as requested.
• Problem Resolution and Troubleshooting:
• Study existing failures and electronic problem reports, including those of hardware interfaces, to trace and identify the cause of the problems.
• Work with the hardware staff, dispatchers, communications, and field personnel to develop and recommend solutions.
