The Senior Accountant will work on-site full time at the Woodbridge, ON office, overseeing day‑to‑day accounting and tax engagements for a diverse portfolio of clients. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing financial statements, corporate and personal tax returns, and related working papers in accordance with relevant standards and regulations. The role involves supervising and mentoring junior staff, reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness, and providing guidance on complex accounting and tax issues.
The Senior Accountant will communicate directly with clients to gather information, resolve discrepancies, and provide clear explanations of financial and tax matters. Additional duties include supporting month‑end and year‑end processes, assisting with tax planning, ensuring compliance with filing deadlines, and contributing to the continuous improvement of internal processes and documentation.
- Strong technical accounting skills, including financial statement preparation, general ledger review, and reconciliation of key accounts.
- Demonstrated experience in corporate and personal tax preparation, compliance with Canadian tax laws, and support for tax planning initiatives.
- Proficiency with accounting and tax software (e.g., Quick Books, Case Ware, Tax Prep, Profile or similar) and solid MS Excel skills.
- Ability to review and oversee the work of junior team members, provide constructive feedback, and support skill development.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational abilities, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non‑specialists.
- Proven experience managing multiple client files, prioritizing workload, and meeting strict deadlines in a public accounting or tax practice.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is strongly preferred but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of Canadian and relevant tax legislation; experience in a small or mid‑sized public practice environment is an asset.
