The Role:
Intermediate Accountant (CPA)

This is a career-defining opportunity for an experienced accountant who thrives in a client-focused, tech-savvy, and growing firm. The successful candidate will have superior cloud-accounting, payroll, administrative, and organizational skills, as well as an advanced understanding of internal controls and business processes. This individual will be an expert in cloud accounting and payment solutions and will use their significant experience to support and advise on various modernization initiatives for our clients.

What

You'll Be Doing
  • Support full cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation of accounts.
  • Physician payments, staff payroll administration, processing, reconciliation, and reporting across client accounts, ensuring compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
  • In-year financial reporting and distribution of materials.
  • Prepare and file year end corporate and information returns.
  • Communicate financial results and conduct client meetings to discuss financial matters and initiatives.
  • Present financial reports to committees and other entities.
  • Client onboarding with cloud accounting and payment processing tech stack.
  • Support operational reviews and implementation of financial transformations.
  • Assist in driving revenue generation and cost containment initiatives for clients.
  • Responsible for the treasury function including the management of cash flows, risk management and banking, and investment relationships.
  • Support the preparation of annual financial statements, and support notice to reader and audit engagements.
  • Lead administrative duties for the firm, and be a go-to resource on coordinating activities.
  • Conduct costing of growth opportunities, including clinic start-ups, real estate investments, partnerships, and other investments.
  • Leadership and attention to detail on all aspects of accounting and reporting activities.
  • Manage all financial and accounting operations and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
What You Bring to the Table
  • Minimum of 3-5 years accounting experience for professional services firms, hospital, medical practices, and/or academic practice plans.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise with a variety of cloud-based bookkeeping applications (Xero, QBO), integrated document management and payment processing software is a must.
  • Advanced expertise in payroll processing, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance using modern cloud-based payroll solutions (e.g., Wagepoint, Quick Books Payroll, or equivalent).
  • Expertise in budgeting, financial reporting (cash flow forecasting/reporting, variance reporting, financial statements), administering staff payroll and disbursements.
  • Preference for in-hospital experience and understanding of hospital finances/invoicing procedures/functional cost centres, revenue/funding streams for physicians (OHIP billings, on-call, AFP, etc.), and administrative processes to support clinical/academic fellows.
