Role Description This is a full-time, Estimator role based in Concord, ON. The Estimator will review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial/institutional (primarily healthcare and education) construction projects. Responsibilities include performing quantity take-offs, obtaining and analyzing subcontractor and supplier quotations, and building bid proposals. The role involves collaborating with project managers and site staff to refine estimates, support value engineering, and track costs against budgets.
The Estimator will also maintain pricing databases, monitor market conditions, and participate in tender closing activities to help secure new work for the company.
Qualifications
- Strong estimating and quantity take-off abilities, with proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience with scheduling software, spreadsheets, and other digital tools used for cost analysis and bid preparation.
- Solid understanding of construction Master Format division codes, and trade scopes, preferably within general contracting environments.
- Effective analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in pricing and measurement.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional proposals and coordinate with internal teams and external partners.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Previous estimating experience in commercial construction is an asset; knowledge of local Ontario building codes and market rates is beneficial.
