Job Summary:
Direct Underground is seeking an experienced Sewer & Watermain Foreman to lead and oversee a small-sized crew on municipal reconstruction projects. The Foreman is responsible for daily site operations, crew leadership, safety compliance, productivity, and quality control while working closely with project management and inspectors.
This is a hands‑on leadership role suited for someone who leads by example and understands underground construction from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, supervise, and coordinate a small crew (operators and labourers)
- Assign daily tasks and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently
- Mentor crew members and promote teamwork and accountability
- Oversee sewer and watermain installation, replacement, and repair
- Ensure proper trenching, bedding, pipe installation, back filling, and restoration
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and locates
- Coordinate equipment, materials, and deliveries
- Enforce company safety policies and Ministry of Labour requirements
- Conduct daily tailgate meetings and hazard assessments
- Ensure safe excavation practices, trench protection, and traffic control
- Report incidents, near misses, and site concerns promptly
- Ensure work meets municipal standards and project specifications
- Monitor productivity and address issues proactively
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site
- Act as the primary point of contact on site for management and inspectors
- Complete daily logs, time tracking, and progress reporting
- Communicate site conditions, delays, or scope changes
- 5+ years of experience in sewer & watermain construction
- Previous foreman or lead‑hand experience preferred
- Strong understanding of trenching, pipe installation, and municipal standards
- Ability to read construction drawings and locate sheets
- Valid driver’s license (G)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Working at Heights certification
- Confined Space Awareness
- First Aid / CPR
- Traffic Control certification
