This Instructor, Lines – role will support the Lines Training Operation based out of the Kleinburg Training Operation.

This includes both the Hydro One Apprentice Program and the external Mearie Lines Apprenticeship Program.

A skilled trades Reginal Maintainer Lines (RLM) / Power Line Technican (PLT) background is required.

Job Function:

Prepare lesson material on operating or maintenance, or in technical subjects such as electrical, electronics , mechanical, instrumentation and electronics or other specialties pertinent to the Company. Instruct trainees in skills, knowledge and techniques associated with the Company's Distribution and Transmission Lines. Provide instruction to different levels of lines personnel, from the learner, to the fully qualified skill level and to other personnel as required.

Instruction is provided in various settings including classroom, workshop and laboratory in various locations around the province, to qualify the employees or update their skills for positions in the Company. Participate in the preparation of and conduct examinations, mark papers and progress reports.

General Accountabilities :
  • Prepare and update training lessons and other training assignments for provincial lines personnel. Conduct various technical training courses for the Company pertaining to topics such as electrical, electronics, mechanics, instrumentation or other specialties including troubleshooting, systems studies, and computer systems. Utilize theoretical and practical application for instructing trainees and other staff including trades, technicians, technologists and engineering employees. Receive assignment and outline of requirements from Supervisor.

    Perform necessary field and office research. Maintain an awareness of the continuing development in training personnel and keep abreast of the changing pace of modern technology. Contact knowledgeable staff to solicit professional and practical views and suggestion for inclusion in lessons. Prepare and update lessons according to findings. Submit draft copies to Supervisor for approval and incorporate modifications as instructed.

    Arrange for the production of lesson material and distribute and retain copies as required.
  • Instruct trainees and other personnel in the classroom, workshop or laboratories, in one of the subjects indicated in various training locations throughout Ontario such as training centres, community colleges, or where adequate facilities are available. Present classroom material and ensure that trainees have an adequate understanding of what is being presented and that learning has taken place. Prove through established feedback methods that the lessons have been completely presented.

    Provide instruction workshops and laboratories in the areas of skill training required for all levels of development. Provide instruction in appropriate levels of: mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, Transport and Work Equipment operation and electronic controls, instrumentation and computer equipment as required. Instruct personnel in the proper use and application of hand and power tools, machine shop work, welding, fitting, rigging, machinery testing, computer terminal operation and repair equipment, in order to be able to perform work required by a trainee when in the workplace.
