Position: JROOTS TEACHERS

About the Role

JRoots is a unique Hebrew Supplementary School supporting the educational, cultural and spiritual needs of the Jewish secular community. We offer innovative Hebrew and Judaic programming for children aged 3‑14, spanning JK to grade 7. The school operates from September to May, teaching non‑Hebrew speakers on Sunday mornings and/or Tuesday evenings at two convenient GTA locations:
Thornhill @ the Schwartz/Reisman Centre and mid‑town @ the Prosserman JCC.

We are expanding our team for the 2026/27 school year with four part‑time teachers, including two (or more) elementary grades Hebrew teachers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow lesson outlines and guides to deliver creative, theme‑based, age‑appropriate instruction.
  • Engage students to foster a positive learning experience.
  • Track student attendance and communicate regularly with parents to keep them informed of their child’s progress.
  • Provide comprehensive reports according to JRoots’ leveled success criteria twice a year.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required.
  • Volunteer for at least one JCC community event.
  • Act as a positive ambassador and role model, inspiring students and families.
Qualifications
  • University degree.
  • Ontario/Israel teaching certification (not required for teacher assistants).
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience in Israel and/or Canada.
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, Israel and the local community.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: warm, friendly, flexible, and a positive “can‑do” attitude.
  • Ability to develop and deliver interactive, engaging classes.
  • Effective communication with parents via phone, email, and in‑person.
  • Punctual, responsible, and a team‑worker.
  • Passion for serving the community and strengthening the connection between the local Canadian community and Jewish roots.
