Our client is looking for a Controls Specialist to join their product development team, focused on designing and programming control strategies for custom HVAC systems. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role spanning the full product lifecycle, from concept through commissioning.

Experience: 5+ years considered; 10+ years preferred

What You'll Do

  • Develop and program control logic (PLC and DDC) for HVAC systems
  • Build configurable firmware/software structures that support scalable, standardized product configurations
  • Translate HVAC sequences of operation into practical, serviceable control strategies
  • Support QA, lab testing, validation, and agency certification processes
  • Assist field teams with commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Collaborate with manufacturing on control panel layouts and wiring harness design
  • Work across mechanical, electrical, test, and field support teams to ensure seamless integration
  • Engage with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders to define requirements and resolve technical issues
  • Contribute to new product development (NPD) projects while supporting existing platforms
  • Building Automation,HVAC Controls,Programming Languages,BACnet,Modbus
  • 5+ years in controls engineering, preferably in HVAC or building automation
  • Proficient in IEC 61131-3 based PLC programming (Carel, Schneider, etc.)
  • Hands-on with BACnet, Modbus, LONtalk, and IP-based protocols; BMS integration experience
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, sensors, and control strategies
  • Familiar with electrical schematics, panel layout, and power distribution
  • Knowledge of UL, CSA, and related compliance standards
  • Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic ability
  • Effective communicator across cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable with lab tools, simulation software, and troubleshooting platforms
  • Self-directed with ability to manage shifting priorities
  • Valid passport required; travel within Canada and the US (approx. 5-20%)
  • Preferred Experience

  • HVAC control system design and sequence development
  • VFD integration and tuning
  • IoT platforms, web services, or modern programming languages (Python, C#, Java)
  • Electronic control manufacturing methods and mechanical CAD tools
  • Project management exposure or training
  • Education

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, OR
  • Technical Diploma in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Instrumentation, or related discipline
  • Focus on control systems, embedded software, or HVAC applications an asset
