Our client is looking for a Controls Specialist to join their product development team, focused on designing and programming control strategies for custom HVAC systems. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role spanning the full product lifecycle, from concept through commissioning.
Experience: 5+ years considered; 10+ years preferred
What You'll Do
Develop and program control logic (PLC and DDC) for HVAC systemsBuild configurable firmware/software structures that support scalable, standardized product configurationsTranslate HVAC sequences of operation into practical, serviceable control strategiesSupport QA, lab testing, validation, and agency certification processesAssist field teams with commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance tuningCollaborate with manufacturing on control panel layouts and wiring harness designWork across mechanical, electrical, test, and field support teams to ensure seamless integrationEngage with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders to define requirements and resolve technical issuesContribute to new product development (NPD) projects while supporting existing platformsBuilding Automation,HVAC Controls,Programming Languages,BACnet,Modbus
5+ years in controls engineering, preferably in HVAC or building automationProficient in IEC 61131-3 based PLC programming (Carel, Schneider, etc.)Hands-on with BACnet, Modbus, LONtalk, and IP-based protocols; BMS integration experienceStrong understanding of HVAC systems, sensors, and control strategiesFamiliar with electrical schematics, panel layout, and power distributionKnowledge of UL, CSA, and related compliance standardsSkills
Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilityEffective communicator across cross-functional teamsComfortable with lab tools, simulation software, and troubleshooting platformsSelf-directed with ability to manage shifting prioritiesValid passport required; travel within Canada and the US (approx. 5-20%)Preferred Experience
HVAC control system design and sequence developmentVFD integration and tuningIoT platforms, web services, or modern programming languages (Python, C#, Java)Electronic control manufacturing methods and mechanical CAD toolsProject management exposure or trainingEducation
Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, ORTechnical Diploma in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Instrumentation, or related disciplineFocus on control systems, embedded software, or HVAC applications an asset
