OVERVIEW

The UAV Field Engineer is responsible for supporting the development, testing, deployment, and operation of Volatus Aerospace's RPAS platforms. This role works closely with Engineering and Flight Operations teams to execute field testing, troubleshoot technical issues, analyze system performance, and ensure safe and successful flight operations. The successful candidate will combine strong engineering knowledge with hands-on field experience in a dynamic operational environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and execute engineering test plans to evaluate and improve system performance.
  • Analyze technical data and identify root causes of system issues.
  • Prepare technical reports, test documentation, and engineering recommendations.
  • Support flight operations during ground and flight-testing activities.
  • Perform pre-flight inspections and assist with operational readiness.
  • Operate Ground Control Stations (GCS) during flight testing and operational missions.
  • Support the integration, testing, and validation of RPAS systems and avionics.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and system integration issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to implement technical improvements.
  • Participate in field deployments and provide technical support during customer demonstrations and operational missions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining the highest safety standards.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • University degree in aerospace, computer, electrical, mechanical or mechatronics engineering or computer science
  • At least three years of professional experience in an engineering or related position
  • Actively participate in field operations, including deployment, testing, and operational support
  • Hands-on experience with CAD(Solidworks), electronics, embedded systems, autopilots, or robotics
  • Experience in UAS flight testing and operations
  • Ability to travel for work within North America or International.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in UAS ground control station (GCS) operation and monitoring flight data in real time
  • Experience integrating, configuring, and tuning autopilots, sensors and / or other avionics systems
  • Experience tuning flight controller parameters and gains
  • Experience with programming languages (Python, C++, C#, Assembly)
  • Advanced RPAS License issued by Transport Canada
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
  • Strong commitment to safety and experience in safety critical system design and / or operation
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Ability to make good decisions under pressure using sound, professional judgment
  • High concentration levels required during flight operations
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team involving staff, clients and outside agencies
  • Strong organizational skills, including an ability to prioritize activities and complete tasks on schedule with limited supervision
  • Willingness to work outdoors on multiple days per week
HOURS OF WORK, Work Environment and Potential Travel
  • The position is an onsite role, and the Employee is required to perform their duties primarily at the Company’s designated workplace, as directed by the Company.
  • The standard work schedule consists of forty (40) hours per week, typically performed Monday to Friday, subject to operational requirements.
  • From time to time, the Employee may be required to maintain reasonable flexibility in working hours to support operational needs, time-sensitive activities, or business priorities.
