We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established and growing company in the construction industry, for a Senior Controller to join their leadership team based in Vaughan, Ontario.

This is a key strategic role overseeing the financial operations of eight corporate entities and managing a team of ten finance professionals. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Senior Controller will play an integral role in driving financial excellence, supporting growth initiatives, and contributing to the company’s broader business strategy, including mergers and acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of approximately 10 accounting and finance professionals.
  • Oversee all financial operations for 8 legal entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and consistency across divisions.
  • Manage consolidated financial statements, monthly reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Supervise general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, and job costing functions.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
  • Lead the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Partner with operational leaders to monitor project performance, job costing, and profitability.
  • Deliver timely, data-driven financial insights to support executive decision-making.
Audit, Compliance & Controls
  • Manage year-end audit processes and liaise with external auditors, banks, and advisors.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS) and regulatory requirements.
Strategic & M&A Support
  • Collaborate with the CFO on corporate growth initiatives and business acquisitions.
  • Conduct financial due diligence, prepare models, and support post-acquisition integration.
  • Contribute to capital planning, risk management, and strategic financial projects.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) required.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience.
  • Experience in the construction, infrastructure, or engineering sectors strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-entity consolidations and complex financial structures.
  • Hands‑on experience with mergers and acquisitions (due diligence and integration).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems; experience with construction accounting software.
