Full-time Facilities Maintenance Specialist/Handyman/Custodian

Pay Rate:
Ranges from $24.00 per hour, depending on experience
Our client, located in Vaughan, ON, is seeking a reliable, hands-on, proactive full-time Facilities Maintenance Specialist/Handyman/Custodian to oversee the day-to-day maintenance, cleanliness, repair coordination, and overall appearance of multiple commercial, industrial, office, and residential properties.
The ideal candidate can work independently, prioritize tasks efficiently, and respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies. They are organized, mechanically inclined, service-oriented and capable of handling a wide range of building maintenance and operational responsibilities while ensuring all properties remain safe, functional, professional and well-maintained.
Responsibilities General Property Maintenance- Perform routine inspections of buildings, grounds, common areas, mechanical rooms, parking lots, and exterior areas
- Complete general handyman repairs including:
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Painting and drywall patching
- Door and lock repairs
- Basic electrical maintenance
- Fixture installation and replacement
- Ceiling tile replacement
- Minor carpentry work
- Landscaping
- Delivery and pick up of materials and acquisition of tools and items
- Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce long-term repair costs
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance/storage areas
- Ensure all common areas, washrooms, hallways, entrances, elevators, kitchens, and office spaces are clean and presentable
- Perform light janitorial duties as required
- Coordinate garbage disposal, recycling, and waste management
- Monitor and replenish building supplies including:
- Paper products
- Soap and cleaning supplies
- Light bulbs
- Salt and seasonal materials
- Monitor HVAC, lighting, plumbing, sprinkler, and building systems for proper operation
- Coordinate and supervise external contractors and service providers
- Ensure building maintenance schedules are followed
- Assist with vendor access and property inspections
- Maintain maintenance logs, service records, and repair documentation
- Assist with unit turnovers and preparation of vacant spaces
- Monitor landscaping, snow removal, salting, and exterior property conditions
- Ensure parking lots, walkways, and entrances remain safe and clean
- Assist with seasonal property preparation and maintenance
- Respond professionally and promptly to tenant maintenance requests and concerns
- Maintain positive relationships with tenants, contractors, and staff
- Assist management with property-related issues and emergency situations
- Provide exceptional customer service while representing the company professionally
- Ensure properties comply with health and safety standards
- Identify and report safety hazards immediately
- Assist with fire safety checks, emergency lighting inspections, and building compliance requirements
- Follow company safety procedures and wear appropriate protective equipment when required
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in building maintenance, facilities management, handyman services, or custodial operations
- Strong knowledge of general building systems and maintenance procedures
- Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, and carpentry repairs
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks across different properties
- Professional communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Physically capable of lifting, climbing ladders, and performing manual work
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Experience working with commercial and industrial properties
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs
- WHMIS and Health & Safety certifications
- Experience coordinating contractors and service providers
- Basic computer and smartphone proficiency for reporting and communication
- Vehicle (truck) required
- Combination of indoor and outdoor work
- May require evening or weekend…
