Metrie's Brand Purpose
The Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist will report directly to the Business Improvement Manager. The CI Specialist is responsible for driving a culture of continuous improvement within our Calgary MDF business. By identifying, analyzing, and executing operational enhancements in the plant, you will collaborate with Leadership and Operations teams to lead and deliver Lean process improvement projects from conception to completion. This role is accountable for delivering measurable improvements that reduce expenses, optimize processes, and enhance operational performance.
This is a highly visible role, accountable for driving measurable improvements that reduce expenses and optimize plant processes. The ideal candidate will have a passion for manufacturing a great product, providing outstanding customer service (internally and externally), leading/developing teams, and ambition to grow into management roles.
Primary responsibilities of the role include:- Drive improvements in manufacturing safety, quality, service, cost, and delivery lead times through targeted continuous improvement and process engineering initiatives.
- Analyze processes using plant KPIs, identify inefficiencies, and implement engineering solutions to optimize workflows, enhance capability, and reduce waste.
- Develop and execute Lean strategies that translate business goals into actionable, results-driven projects.
- Create, manage, and implement CI plans and savings budgets to improve efficiency, productivity, and alignment with business objectives.
- Support the implementation of new machinery, automation, and advanced technologies to increase efficiency and reliability.
- Develop, track, and report KPIs and other performance metrics to support problem-solving, validate changes, and drive data-based decisions.
- Identify both short- and long-term improvement opportunities to strengthen operational performance and achieve strategic objectives.
- Plan and execute Kaizen events and other CI initiatives focused on waste reduction, process optimization, and performance improvement.
- Foster employee engagement by building a culture of teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Teach, mentor, and coach employees on Lean/CI tools, methodologies, and best practices to build sustainable organizational capabilities.
- Share learnings, best practices, and process enhancements across manufacturing facilities (up to 15% travel).
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- 5-7 years of leading business transformation.
