Position: Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor

Position Summary

The QA Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily quality assurance and food safety activities within a BRCGS-certified food manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with BRCGS Food Safety Standards, CFIA/FDA regulations, HACCP programs, GMPs, sanitation standards, and internal quality systems.

The QA Supervisor leads QA technicians and line auditors, supports production operations, manages product quality issues, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to maintain product safety, legality, authenticity, and quality.

Key Responsibilities Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with BRCGS Food Safety Standards and all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, GMP, allergen control, sanitation, traceability, and food defense programs and readiness for certification audits/inspections.
  • Conduct routine verification activities and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
Quality Assurance Operations
  • Supervise QA technicians and quality inspectors during production and sanitation shifts.
  • Conduct routine verification activities to ensure QA technicians and quality inspectors are performing as per written programs.
  • Ensure accurate completion of quality documentation and records retention.
  • Monitor product quality attributes including, but not limited to:
    Appearance, Weight control, pH, Temperature, Label verification, Packaging integrity, Sensory evaluation
  • Investigate quality deviations, customer complaints, and non-conformances.
  • Supervise product holds, releases, and disposition decisions.
BRCGS System Management
  • Support implementation and maintenance of:
    Document control, Internal audit program, CAPA system, Supplier approval program, Environmental monitoring, Traceability and recall procedures
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Ensure all programs align with BRCGS requirements and site policies.
Team Leadership & Training
  • Supervise and coach QA personnel to ensure effective performance.
  • Conduct onboarding and ongoing food safety/GMP training for employees.
  • Promote a strong food safety and quality culture throughout the facility.
  • Collaborate with production, sanitation, maintenance, and warehouse departments.
  • Scheduling QA coverage across shifts.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve product quality, food safety systems, and operational efficiency.
  • Support implementation of corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Participate in validation and verification activities.
  • Analyze trends related to:
    Customer complaints, Non-conformances, Environmental monitoring, Foreign material incidents, Hold and release data
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following:
    Food Science, Microbiology, Food Technology, Chemistry, Biotechnology
  • Minimum 3–5 years of QA experience in food manufacturing.
  • Minimum 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
  • Experience working in a GFSI-certified facility is required.
  • Experience with ready-to-eat (RTE), refrigerated, frozen, or high-risk food manufacturing is considered an asset.
Strong Knowledge Of
  • BRCGS Food Safety Standard, ACCP principles, GMPs and sanitation programs, Allergen management, Food microbiology, Traceability and recall systems, CFIA and/or FDA regulations, SPC and quality monitoring systems, Root cause analysis and CAPA processes
