Position
:
Snow Plow / Seasonal Equipment Operator (October – April). DZ license required; $28.00 to $32.00 hourly; seasonal benefits apply.
The incumbent maintains contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) through operation/use of heavy equipment, particularly during seasonal needs (e.g., snow plow operations). Responsibilities require high safety awareness, hazard recognition, and clear communication of safety instructions to co-workers. Must be able to think clearly and prioritize safety while using tools and equipment and operating vehicles. PPE must be worn as appropriate.
Primary duties vary by season and include:
- Winter season: Removal of snow and ice using snow removal and/or sanding equipment; salting and seasonal road/bridge maintenance.
- Summer season: Maintain and repair highways and other surfaces including signs, guardrails, fences, lighting, potholes, striping, reflectors, litter and debris removal.
As Required
- Traffic control setup and removal
- Transport crew and equipment to work sites
- Emergency response rotations, overtime, evenings, weekends and holidays
- All other duties as assigned
- Effective communication in English, both oral and written
- Basic mathematical functions
- Ability to follow policies and procedures consistently
- Ability to understand instructions and safety rules and manuals
- Capability to work in a dynamic environment with changing demands
- Experience with hand and power tools, traffic control devices and mobile equipment used for maintenance
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year of related construction/road maintenance experience; operating equipment with DZ license
- Valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s license and acceptable driving record; AZ license is a plus
Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking on various surfaces; manual dexterity; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; use of manual and powered tools; vision requirements including color and depth perception.
Work Environment: Exposed to outside weather (extreme heat/cold), possible wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, insects; noise levels typically moderate and may vary.
