Purpose of Job

The Dispatcher adds value to our Customers by efficiently managing delivery routes, coordinating and dispatching delivery drivers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of customer orders. This involves working as a team and being a positive team player by applying knowledge of the local area, excellent organizational skills, and multitasking in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Route Planning: Plan and optimize delivery routes to maximize efficiency and meet delivery deadlines. Monitor routes and reassign as necessary
  • Scheduling Deliveries: Ensure timely delivery of orders to customer locations based on priority, delivery windows, location, vehicle types and driver availability
  • Communication: Ensure excellent customer service by positively and clearly communicating with drivers, customers and other stakeholders by addressing inquiries, providing updates, and resolving any issues
  • Problem Solving: Address and resolve scheduling conflicts, delivery issues, truck breakdowns, and other challenges that arise during the dispatching process
  • Other Duties as Assigned: As a member of the team, there may be other tasks assigned that aren’t listed above
Recommended Qualifications Knowledge/ Skill/ Ability Requirements
  • Ability to adapt and shift priorities due to changing demands
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Good judgement and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of Southwestern Ontario geography, road networks, and how to manage with digital systems
  • General product knowledge to know what types of trucks must be used for routes
  • Strong English verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to stay calm in stressful situations
  • Strong computer skills to manage emails, track orders and use distribution software
Experience & Education
  • High School or equivalent
  • Previous wholesale and/or warehouse experience an asset
  • Degree or certificate in logistics or related field an asset
  • Experience with logistics software
  • Dispatch experience
  • Driver experience an asset
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions
  • This position involves frequent use of a computer and telephone
  • This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-pressure situations
  • This position involves being seated for extended periods of time
