Job Summary
The Patient Registration Representative/Medical Records Specialist is responsible for assisting the patient through the registration process while introducing the patient to the facility in a manner designed to reduce patient anxiety. They work with other departments and serve as a liaison for patients, families, hospital management, and staff to ensure patient satisfaction, experience, and quality of services are maintained and improved.
The Specialist also assists with processing health information, including assembly, analysis, release of information, and medical records handling.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in a health care and/or customer service related industry.
- Typing skills of forty (40) words per minute.
- Effective communication skills and ability to handle difficult customers or situations.
- Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications.
- General knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance.
- Experience in patient interviewing.
- Flexibility for weekend, holiday, and other shift work as scheduled is required based on departmental need.
- Ability to collect post and balance cash.
- Ability to perform extensive clerical work with accuracy and speed.
- Ability to be cross‑trained on all processes and to train staff on these processes.
High School Diploma, GED or Certificate.
ScheduleThe schedule consists of three 12‑hour shifts with a start time of 6:00 am until 6:30 pm. This is a rotating weekend schedule that requires some holiday coverage.
