Salary

Starting salary $70,000 - $75,276; candidates with 3+ years LEO start $75,276 after FDLE certification.

Attends and completes accredited FCJA to obtain Florida certification as law enforcement officer for the City of Venice.

Essential city services required during civil emergency. Employees may be activated as essential employees.

• Participates in FCJA classroom activities, scenarios, physical training and other assigned duties and tasks. Confers with supervisor on progress and problems concerning assignments.
• Completes all graded work with a satisfactory score.
• Successfully pass the prescribed and required firearms training course.
• Successfully pass the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification Exam within thirty (30) days of graduation from the FCJA.
• Learns and performs a wide variety of patrol and related duties as appropriate for the non-sworn position.
• Assists the Training Unit as required.

Responsible for following instructions and directions of assigned supervisors and instructors. Completes tasks correctly and in a timely manner while maintaining honor, demeanor and self-control to the satisfaction of the department’s Training Manager. Responsible in work to assigned Venice Police Department supervisor.

Capable of learning modern principles, practices, and procedures of police work. Ability to work independently of direct supervision and capable of sustaining regular and predictable attendance. Skill driving vehicles and in using firearms in accordance with established guidelines. Ability to prepare clear, concise, comprehensive and timely reports, and maintain records and files. Possess excellent listening, speaking and communication abilities. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to remember names, faces and details of incidents. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City employees, governmental officials and the general public; maintaining the trust, faith and confidence of supervisory personnel. Ability to properly retain and dispense confidential information. Must be able to maintain a moral, ethical and legal standard commensurate with the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and meet Florida Police Standards Board criteria.

Possess a valid Florida Driver’s license, free of any serious violations. Requires a working knowledge of the current version of the Microsoft Office Professional software suite including proficiency with Word and Excel. Must have a basic understanding of the current version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Familiarity with Central Square Software applications based on an iSeries system is preferred.

Working knowledge of current versions of Internet browsers and Microsoft Outlook is also highly recommended. Ability to learn specific computer applications used in the Department.
