The USD University Police Department Dispatcher is an entry-level position to be trained in collecting information from the general public and other agencies through verbal, written, or computer contact; analyze and evaluate the urgency of the request and prioritize the request; disseminate to proper personnel or deploy appropriate maintenance, law enforcement, fire and ambulance services. This position accesses and researches numerous computer databases to gather information and apprise police officers and other agencies of information to assist in investigations.
This position transmits and monitors radio transmissions, log officer’s daily activities, report incidents, and dispatch emergency and non-emergency services to necessary locations. This position will attend the SD Basic 911 Telecommunicator certification course within their first year of employment. The applicant must meet the minimum standards as outlined in SD Administrative Rule Chapter 2:05:01. Duties to include dispatching, parking enforcement, working special events and other duties as assigned.
Dispatchers currently work a rotating schedule. Shifts are midnight to 8 AM, 8 AM to 4 PM, and 4 PM to midnight.

Minimum qualifications and requirements include: US Citizen;
Minimum 18 years of age;
High School Diploma or equivalency certificate;
Must pass Physical Exam and Law Enforcement Background Check;
Obtain NCIC Certification within 3 months of hire;
State of SD 911 Certification within one year.
