The Charlie’s Bookstore & Fan Shop Buyer is responsible for selecting, purchasing, and managing merchandise that supports the needs of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and fans while advancing the brand of the University of South Dakota. This role ensures inventory is appropriately sourced, priced, and replenished, while aligning with sales trends, customer demand, and university priorities.
Key Responsibilities- Select, purchase, and manage merchandise that reflects the USD brand, meets customer demand, and drives sales growth.
- Build and maintain relationships with licensed vendors to ensure product quality, brand alignment, and compliance with university licensing standards.
- Analyze sales data and market trends to guide buying decisions and optimize inventory performance.
- Execute open-to-buy processes, monitor inventory levels, and provide regular performance reports to the Store Manager.
- Coordinate product launches, seasonal promotions, and digital campaigns to enhance visibility and sales.
- Participate in campus and game-day events to engage customers and strengthen the Coyote fan experience.
- Ensure all purchasing and merchandising decisions align with university goals, fiscal responsibility, and long-term retail strategy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 2–3 years of relevant retail buying or merchandising experience.
- Strong vendor negotiation, data analysis, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
