. Dispatchers are a vital link between the campus community and emergency response services, playing a key role in protecting public safety and supporting law enforcement operations. This position requires sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure situations.
This is an entry-level position that provides comprehensive training. Dispatchers receive and process information from the public and partner agencies via phone, radio, written, and computer systems; assess and prioritize the urgency of requests; and coordinate the appropriate response, including law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and maintenance services. Dispatchers monitor and transmit radio communications, maintain activity logs, document incidents, and access multiple computer databases to support officers and investigations.
Additional responsibilities include parking enforcement, support for special events, and other duties as assigned. Dispatchers are required to complete the South Dakota Basic 911 Telecommunicator Certification within the first year of employment and must meet the minimum standards outlined in South Dakota Administrative Rule Chapter 2:05:01

Dispatchers work a rotating shift schedule
, including:
- Midnight–8:00 a.m.
- 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
- 4:00 p.m.–Midnight
