It combines climate change, racial and economic justice, and practical skills in a rigorous graduate curriculum. MLGS houses four research centers, including the Center for Agriculture and Food Systems and the Animal Law and Policy Institute.
Position SummaryVLGS seeks a visiting or research faculty member with expertise in aquaculture law or policy. The successful candidate will lead research, teaching, and policy reform initiatives that address the environmental, community, and animal welfare impacts of industrial aquaculture.
Key Duties and Responsibilities- Research and Programmatic Oversight
:
Lead cutting‑edge research and program initiatives focused on aquaculture law and policy. Align research with institutional priorities and student needs. Build partnerships to advance policy reform and litigation. - Academic Engagement
:
Develop and teach courses on aquaculture law and policy and related institutional needs. Support academic and professional opportunities for VLGS students. - Community and Stakeholder Engagement
:
Build and maintain relationships with advocates, scholars, policymakers, community organizations, and alumni. Lead event planning, convenings, workshops, and conferences. Represent VLGS at outside conferences and public forums. Promote research findings and educational achievements to stakeholders.
- Extensive knowledge of aquaculture, current environmental challenges, trends, technologies, and policy issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; capacity to engage internal and external stakeholders.
- Strategic thinking and problem‑solving abilities focused on achieving impactful results.
Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Required Qualifications- Ph.D., J.D., or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Law, Environmental Science, Economics, Marine Ecology, Public Policy).
- Expertise, publications, and research related to aquaculture law and/or policy.
- Experience leading or managing academic, policy advocacy, or research programs in an academic, non‑profit, or industry setting.
