Job Description

Anticipated 1:1 Para educator

Position Summary

The 1:1 Para educator provides individualized support to a designated child within the early childhood classroom. The Para educator works closely with the classroom teacher, Director, and outside service providers to help the child safely access and participate in classroom routines, learning activities, play, and social interactions. The goal of the position is to provide appropriate support while promoting the child's independence, inclusion, and success within the classroom.

Responsibilities
  • Provide consistent, individualized 1:1 support to the designated child throughout the school day.
  • Follow the classroom teacher's direction and the child's individualized support plan, as applicable.
  • Assist the child with classroom routines, transitions, self-help skills, and daily activities.
  • Support the child's participation in classroom activities, lessons, play, meals, and social interactions.
  • Implement individualized strategies and supports, including visual schedules, first-then boards, social stories, sensory supports, and other strategies identified by the teaching team or service providers.
  • Support positive behavior, self-regulation, communication, and social-emotional development.
  • Help the child safely navigate the classroom and participate in activities while maintaining active supervision.
  • Provide support with toileting, diapering, handwashing, meals, snacks, and other personal care needs as appropriate.
  • Assist the child with transitioning between activities, environments, and routines.
  • Encourage independence and avoid providing more assistance than necessary.
  • Monitor and communicate observations regarding the child's behavior, participation, progress, and needs to the classroom teacher and Director.
  • Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, families, and outside service providers while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Participate in meetings, observations, trainings, and professional development related to the child's needs when requested.
  • Assist with classroom cleaning, organization, and other duties when the designated child is appropriately engaged and direct support is not required.
  • Follow all program policies, childcare licensing regulations, health and safety requirements, and confidentiality policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Lead Teacher.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with young children, particularly children who may require additional behavioral, developmental, or individualized support, preferred.
  • Early childhood education coursework or willingness to complete required coursework and professional development.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, consistent, and supportive during challenging situations.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, flexibility, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to follow individualized strategies and directions from the classroom teacher and service providers.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Must meet all background check, fingerprinting, and childcare licensing requirements.
