Job Overview:

This is a hands‑on, working manager position. The Engineering Manager leads a multidisciplinary engineering team developing fuel measurement solutions for military and commercial aircraft, while continuing to perform systems engineering work directly. Approximately 50–60% of this role is dedicated to systems engineering and project technical leadership, and 40–50% to team leadership, engineering governance, and people management.

This role serves as the technical authority for the team’s work, owns the engineering change and document review processes, and is responsible for the day‑to‑day supervision, development, and performance management of department staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Systems Engineering:
  • Serve as technical lead on projects, ensuring product designs meet performance specifications, customer requirements, and applicable certification standards.
  • Perform requirements analysis, system architecture, system safety analysis, and verification and validation activities.
  • Define and manage interfaces between mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems.
  • Create detailed design documentation and conduct analyses for complex electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Plan and execute qualification testing, including preparation of test equipment and reporting of results.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support for fielded and in‑production products, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and obsolescence management.
  • Support new business proposals by analyzing customer requirements, developing technical approaches, and preparing engineering labor, cost, and schedule estimates in coordination with Business Development.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact with customers, suppliers, and test facilities.
Engineering Governance:
  • Review and approve or reject engineering change requests, assessing technical, cross‑disciplinary, cost, and schedule impacts.
  • Maintain configuration control for products and test equipment.
  • Lead the engineering document review process for specifications, drawings, design documents, test plans, and procedures, coordinating discipline‑level peer reviews and performing system‑level review for completeness, consistency, and compliance.
  • Review project technical plans, designs, and schedules, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Assess product quality, safety, and compliance with technical and regulatory standards.
Team Leadership and Development:
  • Assign and prioritize engineering work across the team, balancing project commitments with support for Business Development, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing.
  • Approve PTO and leave requests while maintaining adequate coverage within each discipline.
  • Conduct annual and mid‑year performance reviews, incorporating input from peers and project stakeholders, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.
  • Develop individual goals and professional development plans for team members.
  • Hold regular one‑on‑one meetings with direct reports.
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding, and work with HR to address performance or conduct issues.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts for engineering processes and products.
  • Participate in company leadership activities, collaborating with other department managers on planning, priorities, and cross‑functional initiatives.
  • Communicate team status, capacity, risks, and resource…
