Public Health Analyst II – Limited Service Overview

The Vermont Department of Health (VDH) is excited to hire a Public Health Analyst II on the Injury Epidemiology Team in the Research, Epidemiology and Evaluation (REE) Unit of the Health Statistics and Informatics Division. This analyst will support VDH's CARA program (Vermont First Responder Emergency Opioid Response Project) and other injury topics such as the Comprehensive Suicide Prevention grant and the Maternal Mortality Review Panel.

The CARA program works to improve Vermont first responders' ability to provide emergency treatment for overdoses and increase the rate of referrals to treatment. The analyst will support the program's evaluation efforts, provide analysis of program metrics, and assist with data interpretation. Activities completed by this analyst include creating program evaluation data collection tools; monitoring naloxone distribution and administration data; analyzing data to determine program effectiveness;

and developing data products.

This analyst will also provide analytic support regarding suicide morbidity in Vermont to support suicide prevention initiatives across the state. The analyst will share key findings through meetings, presentations, data briefs, and reports. Contact with community partners, program staff, and other key partners will be required. All analysts are expected to work on multiple teams, including the Unit, other Divisions in VDH, collaborate on special topic work groups, and perform related duties as required.

Expertise in Microsoft Office and statistical analysis software (R, SAS, or SPSS) is required. The position operates under the REE Unit Chief and the Injury Epidemiology Team Lead. This opportunity is full‑time, based in Waterbury, VT and is supportive of a hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of 3 days a week in‑person required. Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Meetings with data users and providers may require some travel; private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside normal office hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or a social sciences discipline, including 6 credits in statistics at the graduate level AND one (1) year or more of professional level work in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.

OR

Bachelor's degree in statistics, a health‑related or social sciences discipline, including 12 college credits in statistics, research or computer sciences, and 6 of these credits must be in statistics AND two (2) years or more of professional level work in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.

Associate’s degree in public health, health, scientific or informatics field AND four (4) years or more of experience in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation…
