Medical Board Investigator – State of Vermont Dept. Health
Overview
Conducts confidential investigations of allegations of unprofessional conduct against healthcare professionals licensed by the Board of Medical Practice, including physicians, podiatrists, physician assistants, residents holding limited training licenses, as well as those certified by the Board such as anesthesiologist assistants and radiologist assistants.
Investigators must interview witnesses, examine records, collect evidence, participate in evidence analysis with Board members and staff, and testify in depositions and contested case hearings. In cases that lead to criminal charges, investigators collaborate with criminal law authorities, assist prosecuting attorneys in trial preparation and strategy, conduct warrant searches, draft affidavits, and testify in court. Other duties include supporting the licensing process by gathering information and performing background investigations on prospective licensees, and conducting outreach activities by participating in training events and panels for licensees.

Environmental Factors
- Work is performed remotely, in the field, or in a standard office setting.
- Incumbent must be able to work irregular hours inому. The field as needed, including evenings, weekends, and out‑of‑state travel.
- Incumbent may be required to interview witnesses under difficult circumstances and may encounterugi personal security threats.
Minimum Qualifications
- [ High School diploma or equivalent and five (5) years or more at or above a technical level in investigatory, law enforcement, paralegal, or criminal justice work.
- OR Associate’s degree or higher, or two years or more of full‑time college coursework in law enforcement, criminal justice or paralegal studies, and three (3) years or more at or above a technical level in investigatory, law enforcement, par పాత్ర, or criminal justice work.
Special Requirements
- Current certification as a full‑time law enforcement officer by the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council.
- This position is Group “C” retirement with mandatory retirement at age 57.
AHS Background Checks
Applicants must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, hiring standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, will be conducted on candidates.
