Job Description

Looking for a summer where your medical expertise truly makes a difference—without giving up fresh air, community, and a beautiful setting? YMCA Camp Abnaki is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dependable Camp Nurse to support the health and well‑being of our campers, staff, and guests throughout the summer season. As the Camp Nurse, you’ll be a steady, trusted presence in our camp community—providing care, managing health needs, and helping ensure that every camper can focus on what camp does best: friendship, growth, and fun.

This role balances professional responsibility with the unique rewards of life at camp.

The contract for this position is from June 8 through August 22, with a preferred end date of August 29. Possibilities of pre‑season and post‑season work are also available.

Why You’ll Love This Job
  • Make a Meaningful Impact:
Be a key part of keeping campers and staff healthy, safe, and supported during a formative summer experience.
  • Practice in a Unique Setting:
Use your medical skills in a dynamic camp environment where collaboration, independence, and adaptability matter everyday.
  • Live Where You Work:
Spend your summer on the shores of Lake Champlain with housing and meals included.
  • Be Part of Something Bigger:
Join a mission‑driven YMCA team dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
What You’ll Do
  • Provide daily care: administer medications and provide care for campers and staff, including sick calls, inpatient care, and emergency response.
  • Manage health records: maintain accurate health records, daily logs, treatment documentation, and insurance information per ACA and pediatric standards.
  • Review medical information: collaborate with the Office Manager to review camper and staff health forms and identify health concerns or needed accommodations.
  • Coordinate medical services: communicate with parents and coordinate care with local clinics, urgent care centers, and hospitals as needed.
  • Maintain the Health Center: ensure medical supplies, equipment, and medications are stocked, organized, and properly maintained.
  • Support Health Center Staff: supervise and support the Health Center Assistant and ensure 24‑hour health coverage is maintained.
  • Partner with Camp Leadership: work closely with the Senior Director of Camping and the Camp Director to communicate health needs, procedures, and concerns throughout the camp season.
  • Support overall well‑being: promote and support the physical and mental well‑being of all campers and staff, responding with care, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Uphold Camp Standards: participate in staff training, complete required child‑abuse prevention training, and follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Step in as needed: perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall health and safety of the camp community.
