Farm Field Worker and Production Assistant, Organic Vegetable Farm (April 2026 – November 2026, Shaftsbury, VT)
Mighty Food Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm based in the scenic town of Shaftsbury, Vermont. Established in 2007, the farm is entering its 16th growing season as of 2022, offering fresh, high-quality organic vegetables to customers throughout the year. With a commitment to sustainable practices and local farming, Mighty Food Farm serves its community through various distribution channels. The farm emphasizes environmental stewardship and the delivery of nutritious produce.
Responsibilities- Harvesting crop. We are daily during peak season. Lisa creates detailed harvest lists daily to guide on quantities, field locations and any notes.
- Greenhouse seeding. We propagate our own seedlings. Seeding succession crops and main crops happens weekly from May through August.
- Greenhouse crop care. We produce three greenhouses of tomatoes and two greenhouses of cucumbers. These are prolific plants that require weekly pruning and trellising.
- Weeding. We are certified organic and thus weed with hoes and hands. We cultivate crops with tractors but often need to clean up with hoes.
- Packing shed work. We pack for wholesale, Dorset Market Customer Order CSA boxes, and have many packing tasks to get our vegetables out the door and to customers. You will be involved in bagging, weighing, sorting, and packing the vegetables for 4 to 12 hours weekly.
- General field work. Mulching with hay, applying, and removing crop covers, and planting are general field jobs that require attention to detail and can be strenuous.
- Farm organization. Everything has a place, tools, crates, bags, equipment, trucks, etc. Please keep things organized and clean.
- Physical ability. To lift 50 pounds, bend, twist, stand on your feet for 8 hours, and move crates of produce all day. We have many utility carts on wheels but lifting is still required.
- Verbal communication skills:
Ability to follow instructions and to clearly express ideas in a concise and professional manner. Communication with other pack shed co-workers and harvest crew to make sure the packing lists are complete by the time they are needed. - A team-oriented attitude. Our field team works hard but has fun while doing so! Please bring your best attitude and presence daily. We work hard to have a fun, accepting, and loving work place culture!
- Reliability. We are dedicated to our customers and we are dedicated to each other. Please know that your position is important and aside from necessary sick or other days off that may be needed, plan on being at work every day.
- Strong work ethic with history and the ability to work effectively with others and solo.
April through November, 2026. 40 hours a week April through October. 25-30 hours a week in November and December. Monday through Friday 7:30 to 3:30 pm. Half hour paid lunch break and 15 minutes paid morning break. Winter work is available part-time for the right candidate. Winter work is reserved for employees who commit to the following season.
WagesStart at $20-24/hour, more based on experience.
