Instructs skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities how to improve their ski/ride skill, while providing a fun and effective learning environment. Along with assisting in all facets of the ski/ride department, including scheduling, booking, coordinating, terrain parks, facilities and point of sale duties.
Responsibilities- Instructs groups and/or individuals in a fun lesson format
- Teaches proper technique appropriate to the ability level of those being instructed
- Promotes safety and gives students the knowledge to remain safe when they leave lessons to ski/ride on their own
- Participates in clinics and free skiing to constantly improve personal skiing skills
- Attends PSIA and AASI clinics, and takes appropriate exams, on an ongoing basis
- Pre-season clinics required
- Greet guests and direct guests to proper lesson locations
- Must successfully complete instructor training
- Construct Park features such as rails and jumps
- Shovel snow, fix broken items, and perform general maintenance in the clubhouse
- Ski/ride prior to daily opening to assess quality and safety issues
- Mark off and close features as safety necessities, and report closing to terrain park manager
- Patrol the park, encourage proper park use and address unsafe practices with users
- Assist injured park guests, and call ski patrol if needed
- High school diploma
- Friendly, outgoing personality
- Patience, and a love of the outdoors and teaching
- Must pass background check necessary to work with children
- Clear verbal communication skills
- Ability to always ski safely and confidently in all ski conditions and in varying terrain
- Ability to work during peak ski times and in bad weather
Must be capable of skiing/riding for prolonged periods of time (2+ hours at a time) to teach lessons. Dealing with demanding customers can be stressful.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed both outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind and rain, on varied snow surfaces, as well as indoors. Indoor time is spent meeting and greeting, and in the Explorers Clubhouse with children.
