Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Full Time

North Star Health is happy to welcome a Full-Time Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to our primary care team in Ludlow, Vermont. This role is an important part of our day-to-day clinic flow and helps ensure our patients feel supported, respected, and cared for from the moment they arrive.
We are a small, collaborative practice and value team members who are dependable, kind, and willing to help where needed to keep our clinic running smoothly.
Responsibilities- Greet and room patients, obtain vital signs, and document in the EHR
- Support providers during patient visits and procedures
- Assist with prior authorizations, primarily for medications and some outpatient referrals
- Communicate with patients, pharmacies, and insurance companies to support continuity of care
- Help manage clinical inbox tasks, scheduling support, and patient follow-up
- Maintain exam rooms, supplies, and infection control standards
- Work closely with the care team to create a positive patient experience
- The major duties regularly performed and normally assigned to the position include: assists the practitioner in caring for office patients; greets patients in a professional, polite, prompt, helpful, friendly, positive, and welcoming manner; conducts initial patient interview; obtains and documents vital signs; assists practitioners with ordering labs and procedures; completes a thorough chart review prior to the visit; cleans exam rooms;
maintains medical supplies; supports patient care through engagement with other members of the patient’s care team; communicates with external parties; completes forms and other paperwork as needed; works with the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate access to care; communicates results and treatment plan details; provides patient safety assistance; ensures documentation accuracy; assists with procedures such as removing sutures, changing dressings, and obtaining specimens;
handles lab and refrigerated item quality control; monitors emergency tools and supplies; handles prescription refills; administers vaccines and other medications following the seven rights; maintains patient safety; demonstrates flexibility in schedule and location; and performs all other duties as assigned

The Certified Medical Assistant provides administrative and clinical support to the providers and other healthcare professionals within the clinic maintaining smooth patient flow, and delivery of quality patient care. Responsible for various duties including performing basic medical procedures, managing medical records and coordinating administrative tasks.

- Conducts initial patient interview to gather and document pertinent information regarding their office visit according to policies and procedures.
- Obtains and documents vital signs as appropriate for patient age and reason for visit.
- Assists practitioners with ordering labs and procedures.
- Completes a thorough chart review prior to the visit to include identification of outstanding lab and imaging results, clinical documents and consultation reports.
- Cleans exam rooms between patients according to the best practice guidelines.
