Miss April’s Music is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable part-time piano teacher to join our growing team in Mt. Vernon, IL.

About Us

Miss April’s Music is a community-focused music studio dedicated to helping students truly enjoy learning music. We believe music lessons should be engaging, encouraging, and something students look forward to each week.

We specialize in small group lessons that use games, interactive activities, and personal connection to help students build confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of music. Our teachers are caring, upbeat, and supportive, and we work together as a team to create a positive experience for students and families. Our approach is best described as Magic School Bus meets music lessons: playful, creative, and student-centered, while still focused on growth and progress.

Responsibilities
  • Foster a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment
  • Assist in the creation and adaptation of flexible lesson plans
  • Adjust instruction in real time based on student engagement and needs
  • Incorporate games, movement, and creative activities into lessons
  • Maintain a professional, positive, and dependable presence
  • Participate in biannual (twice-yearly) student performances
  • Support occasional studio or organizational needs as required
Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to teach piano from beginner through late-intermediate levels
  • Ability to teach students ages 7 through adult
  • Strong communication skills and reliability
  • Upbeat, flexible, and student-focused attitude
  • Willingness to be playful, creative, and engaging while teaching
  • Availability during after-school and early evening hours
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

Preferred (but not required):

  • Teaching experience (formal or informal, musical or non-musical)
  • Music education, performance background, or relevant coursework/certification
  • Experience working with children or groups
  • Ability to teach additional instruments
  • Interest in professional growth within a collaborative studio environment
