Visual Language Interpreter Position

Position: Full-Time Visual Language Interpreter Position
Join School District No. 22 (Vernon) as a Visual Language Interpreter for 35 hours a week. You will utilize your fluency in American Sign Language and collaborate to support students' needs.

This 10-month role requires completion of an Interpreter Training Program and registration with an ASL interpreter body. A minimum of one year of interpreting experience, along with a sensitivity to Deaf culture, is essential.

Your role will enhance learning experiences and foster effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret using American Sign Language for diverse settings

• Collaborate effectively with staff and students

• Utilize new technology for communication needs

• Uphold confidentiality and sensitivity to information

• Manage priorities and demonstrate strong organization

Requirements:

• Grade 12 and recognized Interpreter Training completion

• Registration with a national or provincial ASL body

• Minimum of one year interpreting experience

• Strong literacy and numeracy skills

• Education Assistant qualifications are an asset
