The Greater Manchester Region has approximately 2,500 employees. It includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249‑bed community hospital, Rockville General, a campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 102‑bed facility, a large multispecialty provider group and visiting nurse services. The Greater Manchester Region serves a region of 300,000 people in 19 towns.
Position Summary- The Nutrition Assistant reports to the Clinical Nutrition Manager and performs a variety of tasks related to patient service, including providing high‑quality customer service, assisting patients with menu selections, processing menus, utilizing Meditech, ensuring diet orders are met, and communicating concerns.
- Provides meals based on age, development, condition and preferences, and follows JCAHO standards to maximize patient care quality.
- Participates in orientation and training of new employees, students and volunteers.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
- Knowledge of nutritional structure and different classes of people’s needs within that structure.
- Utilizes the Meditech computerized system.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
- Assists patients with menu selection, incorporating special needs, religious and cultural beliefs, and initiating snacks and supplements.
- Updates computerized diet census sheets with accurate patient information.
- Ensures menus are legible, correctly colored, and contain accurate patient information.
- Complies with diet orders by writing and organizing menus accurately for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- Fills out patient profile mandatory fields accurately and maintains up‑to‑date information.
- Reviews and updates menus prior to each meal and organizes hold trays for NPO patients.
- Records and deletes snacks in Meditech according to NPO/PO status changes.
- Prepares grill sheet, cold specials sheet, add‑on sheet, and completes daily meal census.
- Corrects and modifies inpatient menus to comply with physician‑prescribed diet orders.
- Implements phone/computer orders for admissions, discharges, diet changes or room changes.
- Participates in customer service surveys and quality improvement tracking of NPO indicators.
- Applies JCAHO standards and Connecticut State Department of Health regulations.
- Participates in clinical monthly in‑services and attends monthly department meetings.
Education / Certification: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience: Experience working with Meditech preferred.
