Job Description

HSCS is comprised of nine psychiatric hospitals, one youth residential treatment facility, and thirteen state supported living centers. The psychiatric hospitals are a hub of excellence for forensic mental health and complex psychiatric care, with all facilities accredited by The Joint Commission. - Attend work on a regular basis; may be asked to work a specific shift schedule, rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
- Plan and coordinate admissions to the state hospital, ensuring timely and thorough admission processes of new patients.
- Maintain a daily check on bed availability to facilitate timely admissions.
- Ensure availability of psychiatrists to assess patients on admission.
- Supervise assigned staff, including reviewing applications, interviewing candidates, selecting and hiring employees, scheduling workload, establishing performance measures, evaluating performance, providing feedback and guidance, recommending staff development and training, recommending personnel and disciplinary actions, and approving leave.
- Confer with staff on admission processes and identified issues; plan, coordinate, and implement new and revised admission processes and procedures and monitor compliance.
- Evaluate and analyze operations, prepare reports, make recommendations, and respond to special project requests from executive leadership.
- Develop and implement admissions quality assessment and performance improvement activities, including establishing admission goals and objectives and performance measures.
- Provide training or technical assistance regarding the admissions program for internal and external stakeholders (patients, staff, law enforcement, etc.).
- Coordinate medication hearings and commitment renewals with counties of residence or County Courts; ensure courtesy hearings and commitments are carried out and documentation is prepared.
- Assure transfers and discharges are coordinated with receiving facilities or aftercare resources (jails, other state hospitals, local mental health authorities, etc.).
- Assure coordination of the Dangerousness Review Board (DRB) processes, as requested.
- Coordinate and communicate with courts, legal/law enforcement personnel, and related individuals, providing required legal documents.
