Automation and Controls Technician
Under general direction of the SCADA Coordinator. Designs, deploys, maintains and operates the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Industrial Control systems relating to Water and Wastewater operations.
Experience:
High School Diploma/ GED supplemented by (3) three years of experience in the design, installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of complex electronic process control equipment and motor control centers. Preferably on equipment and devices common to water operations, measurement and control.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
A water treatment and/or wastewater treatment background is desirable but is not a requirement.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:- Valid FL Class E Driver's License
Skills:
Knowledge of:
Municipal water and wastewater production and the automation controls in place in this environment.
Record keeping and reporting procedures.
Tools and testing equipment used in the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment used in water and wastewater facilities.
Principals of process control, electronics, electrical equipment, programmable controllers, VFDs, instrumentation, analyzers and related devices.
Tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of communications, ethernet networks, computing, and telemetry equipment.
Laws, rules, codes, and regulations relating to electrical system and electronic maintenance.
AC and DC circuitry, 4-20ma and others instrumentation analog signals, discreate inputs and outputs, relays and relay logic.
Serial, ethernet, Modbus, radiotelemetry (serial and ethernet) communications and control systems protocols.
Various computer software applications.
Practices, procedures, and techniques used in the operation and maintenance of wells, pumping equipment, piping systems, and related components preferred.
Operation and maintenance of valve electric actuators, flow meters, level sensors, analyzers and sampling pumping equipment preferred.
Safe work practices and procedures.
Ability to:
Independently perform a variety of skilled and complex tasks in the repair, and service of SCADA, telemetry, network systems, instrumentation, analyzers and field devices.
Work without direct supervision, alone or in a crew of many.
Work with outside vendors and contractors for a desired outcome and best interest of the Utility.
Use a wide range of hand tools and power tools.
Perform various basic mathematical calculations.
Read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams.
Interpret electrical diagrams and specifications specific to hardware installation and maintenance.
Competently utilize computers and tablets to track and record statistical data pertaining to water operations and SCADA, make notes, navigate various maps and utilize email services.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and those contacted in the course of work.
Keep supervisor and/or Department Manager apprised of changed working conditions and the need for materials, supplies, tools and equipment necessary for safe and efficient work…
