As a Designer at LJA Land Development
, you will be responsible for investigating data for routine design efforts by applying engineering fundamentals. This position is responsible for providing project setup and design support to the project team for engineering projects.
- Determine design criteria, drawing sequence, and presentation, sizing various system components, and refining rough sketches and notes to include material quantities and equipment specifications obtained from standard calculations and vendor catalogs
- Understand and identify construction details
- Set up and maintain the project’s coordinate system with Surveying Department
- Understand typical survey components required on the plan set
- Calculate quantities and material take‑offs
- Determine slopes and grades for pavement complying with criteria while considering natural topography
- Redline Design/Check/QAQC plan sets for CADDers
- Maintain and organize design Project Folders and appropriate documentation
- Other assigned duties as required
- Minimum of high school or technical school training with courses in computer‑aided drafting or equivalent experience
- 2 or more years of extensive drafting and engineering technician experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design site/land development
- Effective communication skills both oral and written
- Effective interpersonal skills with coworkers and public agency officials
- Limited contact with outside agencies and project team members
- Ability to build strong relationships
- Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or on a daily basis as changes occur in project needs
