Patient Support Volunteer
The Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation (FCS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to assisting cancer patients across Florida. 100% of donations go directly to covering essential non‑medical living expenses for patients.
As a Patient Support Volunteer, you will brighten a patient’s day while they receive treatment by providing non‑medical support:
- Offering snacks or beverages
- Handing out warm blankets
- Providing reading materials and conversation
- Wiping down infusion chairs
- Assisting nurses with restocking supplies
Ideal candidates may include retirees, cancer survivors, caregivers, or college students interested in oncology, nursing, or medicine. Minimum commitment: 3 hours per week for at least six months.
Other Requirements- Complete a phone interview
- Criminal history check and drug/nicotine screening (no positive nicotine or medical marijuana)
- Health screening: TB test and immunizations (measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, varicella) or approved exemption
- Annual influenza vaccine (required August 1 through March 31)
