Indian River County

Working under general supervision of the Foreman/Manager performs various maintenance activities using general maintenance, carpentry, asphalt, and masonry skills to repair/install, drainage pipes into drainage structures, sidewalks, roadway repairs, or a combination of these skills for the maintenance of County infrastructure within road rights-of-way or on County property.

• Repairs sidewalks as needed by removing, forming, pouring, and finishing concrete.
• Repairs uneven sidewalks by grinding the existing concrete.
• Performs duties as needed to place hot mix asphalt in large patches or potholes within roadways.
• Preforms guardrail maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Removes and replaces drainage pipe and structures as needed.
• Repairs or replaces irrigations systems as needed.
• Constructs concrete or rip-rap headwalls as needed using various types of construction techniques.
• Constructs and repairs various types of stormwater inlets as needed.

Education:

High school graduate or GED and five years of working experience related skilled labor in the construction industry.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:

• Must possess a valid Class E Driver’s License.

• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in carpentry, asphalt, masonry, irrigation and drainage pipe work as they relate to roadway construction activities.
• Knowledge in the safe operation of various types of hand tools and power tools.
• Knowledge of standard Florida Maintenance of Traffic processes and procedures.
• Ability to interpret drawings and plans.
• Ability to trouble‑shoot irrigation systems and make repairs.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

• Work is performed outside under various types of weather conditions.
