Indian River County
Working under general supervision of the Foreman/Manager performs various maintenance activities dealing with complete irrigation systems throughout the county within road rights-of-way or on County property.
- Diagnose and repair plumbing and electrical issues within irrigation systems.
- Program and adjust irrigation controllers/timers to meet watering schedules.
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting of irrigation systems.
- Repair or replace sprinkler heads, valves, and piping as necessary.
- Read and interpret irrigation blueprints and schematics.
- Prepare and submit accurate work orders, time logs, and service reports.
- Maintain inventory and ensure necessary parts and materials are secured for repairs.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
- Use hand tools and power tools such as shovels, PVC cutters, wire strippers, and pliers.
- Understand and apply the principles of water conservation and smart irrigation practices.
High school diploma / GED and five years of hands‑on experience in irrigation system maintenance and repair.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations- Must possess a valid Class E Driver’s License.
- A valid Florida Class A or B commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker and/or hazmat and tanker endorsements is preferred. Holders of a Class A or B CDL are eligible for incentive pay based on the CDL license classification and endorsements.
Knowledge of irrigation components, including pipe sizes, valves, controllers, and sprinkler heads.
Knowledge in the safe operation of various types of hand tools and power tools.
Familiarity with both conventional and smart irrigation systems and components.
Physical ability to lift, dig, bend, and work in different weather conditions for extended periods.
Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Knowledge of standard Florida Maintenance of Traffic processes and procedures.
Ability to troubleshoot irrigation systems and make repairs.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Environmental Conditions- Work is performed outside under various types of weather conditions.
