Job Title:
Machinist 1st Shift

Job Description

This 1st shift Machinist role focuses on independently setting up, operating, and programming CNC and manual machine tools to produce high-quality, custom parts in a quiet, climate-controlled environment. You will work primarily with Fusion 360 and Mazatrol conversational controls to run a variety of equipment, perform frequent setups, and ensure quality through precise measurement and inspection.

Responsibilities
  • Operate CNC and manual machine tools using Acu-Rite and Mazatrol conversational controls, CAM, or G-code as required by each job.
  • Program and run parts primarily using Fusion 360 or Mazatrol to support efficient and accurate machining.
  • Operate a range of equipment including Clausing CNC bed mills and knee mills with Acu-Rite controls, Haas VM-9 large-format vertical machining centers, manual lathes, drill presses, arbor presses, bench grinders, surface grinders, tapping arms, band saws, and a Mitutoyo coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
  • Cut and prepare material for machining across aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened tool steels, and engineering plastics.
  • Set up jobs independently, including fixturing, tooling selection, tool offsets, and first-article inspection, with an expectation of handling approximately 1530 setups per week.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) callouts, to ensure accurate part production.
  • Maintain quality standards by inspecting your own work using micrometers, calipers, and tape measures, and adjusting processes as needed.
  • Monitor machine performance, make necessary adjustments to programs and setups, and troubleshoot issues to maintain productivity and part quality.
  • Follow established shop procedures and safety practices while maintaining an organized and efficient work area.
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in cross-training efforts to support a flexible and capable shop environment.
Essential Skills
  • 5+ years of CNC machining and programming experience.
  • Proficiency operating CNC mills and CNC lathes.
  • Hands-on experience with machine setup, including fixturing, tooling, and offsets.
  • Ability to program and run CNC machines using Fusion 360 and/or Mazatrol conversational controls.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret GD&T callouts.
  • Experience operating equipment such as CNC bed mills, knee mills, vertical machining centers, manual lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, and related shop tools.
  • Ability to inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and tape measures to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Familiarity with CAM or G-code programming methods for CNC machining.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple setups per week, and maintain consistent quality.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience programming CNC machines with Fusion 360 or Mazatrol is a significant plus.
  • Comfort working with a variety of materials including aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened tool steels, and engineering plastics.
  • Experience using Acu-Rite controls on CNC bed mills and knee mills.
  • Familiarity with Haas vertical machining centers, including large-format machines such as the Haas VM-9.
  • Experience using a Mitutoyo CMM or similar coordinate measuring machine for inspection.
  • Willingness to cross-train on additional machines and processes to support a flexible production environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
