Chemist Fellowship: ERDC Environmental Lab - Master's or Doctoral
Join to apply for the Chemist Fellowship: ERDC Environmental Lab - Master’s or Doctoral role at Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education.
OverviewThe Environmental Laboratory (EL) is one of the seven laboratories of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (USACE-ERDC). EL provides solutions to environmental challenges for the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense and the Nation through environmental science and engineering research and development. Researchers in EL conduct work in ecosystem science and technology, environmental resiliency, environmental sensing, ecological modeling and forecasting, risk and decision science, environmentally sustainable materials, systems biology, climate change, computational chemistry, environmental chemistry and environmental security.
The program supports innovative research in areas such as Environmental Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) mitigation and detection, bio-inorganic catalysis, and supramolecular transition metal complexes.
Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain knowledge by:
- Utilizing practical approaches to address specific scientific challenges, focusing on synthesizing, characterizing, and analyzing chemical and material samples using state-of-the-art equipment.
- Analyzing experimental data, interpreting results, and documenting findings for internal and external reporting through technical notes and reports.
- Collaborating with researchers and team members, participating in regular meetings to discuss progress and share insights.
- Presenting research findings through oral or digital presentations and contributing to technical reports and peer‑reviewed publications.
- Enhancing skills in organic and inorganic synthesis, bio‑inorganic chemistry, material characterization, and photochemistry.
The ideal candidate will currently have or will soon have a master’s or doctoral degree in Chemistry with knowledge in these areas:
- Organic
- Inorganic
- Bio-inorganic
A complete application consists of:
- Zintellect Profile
- Educational and Employment History
