Daycare Support Worker
Permanent Full-time hours are 40 hours per week
Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm
The successful candidate will be required to provide an acceptable Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.
Position SummaryWe are seeking a compassionate and culturally responsive Daycare
Support Worker to join our daycare team. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for children and families, guided by the B.C. Early Learning Framework, the ECEBC Code of Ethics and the six components of Aboriginal Head Start. Our ECE Support Worker works directly with children who require extra support and will follow each child’s care plan.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with a team of dedicated Early Childhood educators.
- Help organize daily routines, schedules, and engaging activities that respect children’s individual needs, strengths, and interests.
- Support children with diverse needs, including developmental, emotional, or behavioral challenges by adhering to their care plans.
- Integrate Indigenous culture, stories, and teachings into daily programming.
- Observe and document children’s play and development to guide program planning.
- Support referrals and additional services for children and families as needed.
- Ensure a safe environment through adherence to daycare policies, licensing requirements, and safety procedures.
- Attend to children’s physical needs (diapering, toileting, meals, rest).
- Build strong relationships with families, respecting cultural values and child-rearing practices.
- Maintain a balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor (we love to be outdoors in all weather), and individual/group activities.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and community events.
Other related duties as assigned
Training, Education, and Experience- Early Childhood Education Certification (ECE) preferred or other education or experience working with children who require extra support.
- Minimum 1 year experience working with young children (experience in a First Nations community preferred)
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions, particularly Esquimalt Nation or a willingness to learn.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and observation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Standard First Aid (or willingness to obtain)
- Collaborative and respectful approach to working across departments.
- Commitment to Esquimalt Nation traditions, values, and teachings.
- Dependability, professionalism, and readiness to serve the community.
- Willingness to engage in reflective practice and conflict resolution.

The Esquimalt Nation administration office is located on Reserve land. As such, in accordance with Section 87 of the Indian Act
