Reporting to the Manager of Public Works and Parks, this position is responsible for performing a wide variety of routine semi‑skilled and skilled general labouring work primarily associated with the construction, maintenance and repair of municipal underground infrastructure, as well as general maintenance/construction duties related to the installation, operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure and services. These duties entail considerable physical effort and require the ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment.

The employee works under general supervision, with more difficult and complicated jobs referred to a superior who checks and reviews the work to ensure adherence to established standards and practices.

• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent, supplemented by demonstrated aptitude for building maintenance and construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Three years’ experience in underground infrastructure maintenance and construction tasks, preferably in a municipal public works environment
• Training in shoring and excavation safe work procedures
• Training in Confined Space Entry safe work procedures
• Certified Traffic Control Certification
• Obtain and maintain a Basic First Aid certificate
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement

Legal ability to work in Canada is a requirement of this position.
