Reporting to the Manager of Public Works and Parks, this position is responsible for performing a wide variety of routine semi‑skilled and skilled general labouring work primarily associated with the construction, maintenance and repair of municipal underground infrastructure, as well as general maintenance/construction duties related to the installation, operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure and services. These duties entail considerable physical effort and require the ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment.
The employee works under general supervision, with more difficult and complicated jobs referred to a superior who checks and reviews the work to ensure adherence to established standards and practices.
Qualifications
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent, supplemented by demonstrated aptitude for building maintenance and construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Three years’ experience in underground infrastructure maintenance and construction tasks, preferably in a municipal public works environment
Training in shoring and excavation safe work procedures
Training in Confined Space Entry safe work procedures
Certified Traffic Control Certification
Obtain and maintain a Basic First Aid certificate
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement
Legal ability to work in Canada is a requirement of this position.
