Adjacent to Victoria on southern Vancouver Island, School District No. 62 (Sooke) is the fastest growing school district on Vancouver Island and one of the fastest growing districts in BC.The District operates in five municipalities:
Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, Sooke and the Highlands and acknowledges the traditional territories of the Coast Salish: T’Sou-ke Nation and Scia’new Nation and Nuu-chah-nulth:
Pacheedaht Nation. We also recognize some of our schools reside on the traditional territory of Esquimalt Nation and Songhees Nation. The District employs over 2,000 educators and support staff and serves over 13,000 students The District’s Strategic Plan looks ahead to the future and focuses on three priority areas: learning, engagement and growth.

  • A starting wage of $28.56 per hour, five hours per week, 10 months per year (September 1 to June 30)

What you need to apply...

As a Supervision Assistant, we are looking for candidates that have a passion for working with children and demonstrate patience and understanding to support a welcoming and safe environment for children. Candidates should also have the following education and experience:

  • Secondary school graduation
  • Up to three months of related experience working with school-aged children
  • Holds (or willing to get) a valid Occupational First Aid – Level 1 Certificate
  • Willing to authorize the completion of a required Criminal Record Check

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
  • Three months of experience and over.
  • Patience with, and care for, students and a demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
  • Ability to follow school district policy and procedures.
  • Be able to follow school “Code of Conduct” and reinforce the values to children.
  • An ability to work well with other adults.
  • A desire to help children.
  • Self-assurance and a well modulated voice with the ability to speak fluently and communicate well.
  • Appreciation of the confidential nature of all information relating to students, parents and teachers.
  • Holder of a valid Occupational First Aid – Level One Certificate.
  • RESPONSIBLE TO:
    Principal

    JOB GOAL:
    To assist in providing a well organized, supervised school environment in which students can take full advantage of their non-instructional time.

    Performance Responsibilities:
  • Assists administration in duties relating to supervision of students during non-instructional time.
  • Dispenses first aid and tends to children in sick room.
  • Responsible for lunch, snack and clean-up routines.
  • May assist children with clothing and dressing as required.
  • Performs related work as required such as bus loading and unloading.
  • The starting hourly rate for this on-call Noon Hour Supervision Assistant position is $28.56per hour as per the collective agreement.
