The Academic and Technical Writing Program (ATWP) at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to commence 1 July 2027. The successful candidate will be appointed into the Faculty of Humanities.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • PhD in a relevant field with specializations in one or more major areas of study in Writing Studies and/or Rhetoric and Composition;
  • Experience with and support of teaching that prioritizes student well‑being and the success of students (including individuals from historically marginalized and colonized populations);
  • Experience and/or interest in ongoing learning and professional development in the field of Engineering Communication and/or Technical Writing.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
  • A scholarly focus on writing program administration/coordination, programmatic assessment, curricular design, writing pedagogy, or related area;
  • Demonstrated experience teaching technical writing at the undergraduate level;
  • Demonstrated teaching experience with Indigenous students and/or research interest in Indigenous pedagogies;
  • Demonstrated research interest in anti‑racist pedagogies;
  • Published research in Writing Studies or a related field;
  • Experience working as a professional or technical writer.
SALARY RANGE

The candidate’s qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $100,000 - $124,000. UVic is committed to offering an equitable and competitive salary, inclusive of a generous benefits package, eligible leaves and pension plan.

  • A curated and organized teaching dossier totalling no more than 25 pages, comprising:
    • A 1‑ to 2‑page statement on your philosophy for teaching writing that includes discussion of efforts to support diversity and accessibility in the classroom;
    • A selection of documents that exemplify claims made in the teaching philosophy statement and offer evidence of helping students grow as writers in academic and/or technical writing classes. These documents may take the form of course outlines, assignment prompts, and/or other teaching materials as well as course evaluation data, teaching observations, and/or student testimonials.
