Duties
As a Naval Architect – Ships Architect (Lead Engineer), you will be responsible for supervising a section of junior engineers and providing technical oversight on various Naval Architecture aspects as engineering support to a production facility. This role requires strong leadership, engineering skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment.
Supervising 7-10 employees who are engineers/technologists
Managing workflow among competing priorities
Providing oversight and/or conducting docking/undockings and incline experiments
Monitoring in-service vessels’ stability conditions
Performing system design and development, maintenance and repair planning on hull structure and hull systems
Exercising technical problem-solving and troubleshooting
Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
Participating in sea trials

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to offer one (1) position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Esquimalt, BC. A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

You need (essential for the job)
Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience working as an engineering specialist in marine structures, marine systems, or naval architecture.
Experience in 2nd and 3rd line ship or submarine repairs.
Experience with hull surveys and ship repair related to structures on ships or submarines.
Experience with hull systems such as fire fighting, HVAC, black and grey water, piping, habitability, etc.
Experience with docking and undocking of ships or submarines.
Experience with conducting inclines with ships or submarines.
Experience with hydrodynamics/hydrostatics of ships or submarines.
Experience in configuration management and engineering change process.
Experience in supervising subordinates.
Experience in workflow management.
Willing and able to work in an open office environment and in an industrial environment.
Willing and able to work overtime, as required.
Willing and able to sail in ships or submarines…
