Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is Vancouver Island’s gateway to the world, connecting more than 1.9 million passengers annually. The Airport Authority is a not‑for‑profit organization operating on the homeland of the W̱SÁNEĆ people.
Appeals to environmental professionals who wish to lead the implementation of the Sustainability Plan and oversee environmental compliance, carbon management, investigations, environmental planning, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory reporting.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead the implementation of YYJ’s Sustainability Plan.
- Oversee environmental compliance, carbon management, investigations, environmental planning and regulatory reporting.
- Collaborate with teams, tenants, contractors, government agencies, and Indigenous partners.
- Provide environmental performance reporting and staff engagement.
Requirements:
- Relevant post‑secondary degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or related field.
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in a complex, regulated environment; at least two years in an airport context preferred.
- Auditing experience is an asset.
Preferred qualifications:
- Professional designation such as AAE, CRSP, R.P. Bio, P.Eng, P.Geo, P.Ag.
Knowledge of:
- Environmental industry best practices, hazard identification, environmental Codes of Practice and legislation.
- Federal and provincial environmental and health and safety legislation.
- Environment and Climate Change Canada reporting programs and Transport Canada lease attestation requirements.
- W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations culture and values is considered an asset.
- Experience preparing technical reports and regulatory submissions.
- Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license.
Skills and abilities
include:
- Interpret legislation and policies, research, investigate and synthesise information.
- Evaluate technical data for compliance and promote environmental and safety performance.
- Effective communication with stakeholders.
- Identify environmental compliance non‑conformances and recommend corrective actions.
- Sound judgement and professionalism; independent and collaborative teamwork.
- Supervise, direct and support staff in a unionised environment.
- Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications for technical documents.
- Legal work authorization in Canada.
Security clearance:
- Within six months of hire, subject must obtain and maintain appropriate Airport Security Clearance (RAIC).

Legal authorization to work in Canada. Qualified Indigenous applicants encouraged.
