Reporting to the Health Director, this position plays a key role in delivering health and wellness programs that promote the physical, mental, and cultural well-being of the Esquimalt Nation community. This role is an active community position which involves a high degree of hands-on care, training and coaching, community outreach and building partnerships with clients and caregivers in the community.
This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing health and wellness programs that are culturally appropriate and responsive to the unique needs of the Nation, honouring its traditions and values. The Health Manager leads a team of health professionals, coordinates community engagement efforts, and manages member benefits administration. Additionally, the Health Manager acts as the Health Director during absences and contributes to the strategic direction and success of health services as a member of the Management Team.
PRIMARYRESPONSIBILITIES Management
- Provides day-to-day leadership to health staff and contractors, including all aspects of human resources management. This would include describing work, recruitment, learning and development planning, career planning, coaching, mentoring, sharing of knowledge, capacity building, and performance management, etc.
- Manages budgets as assigned by the Health Director.
- Fosters a cooperative and collaborative working environment through team activities, personal leadership and professional incentives, including the management and resolution of conflicts.
- Supports the Health Director to seek out diverse funding sources to sustain health and wellness programs, including grants and funding opportunities.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates community health and wellness programs by involving community members.
- Engages with community members to understand their health needs and priorities, ensuring programs are community-driven and accessible.
- Consults with community members regularly to evaluate the effectiveness of health and wellness initiatives.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with leaders, Elders, youth, and families to foster a holistic approach to health and wellness.
- Leads the planning and implementation of community health initiatives, identifying priorities such as wellness, homecare, and elder support.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates community health and wellness plans, addressing current and emerging needs with input from the community and health professionals.
- Anticipates, builds, and nurtures collaborative and respectful working relationships with First Nations in BC, health and wellness partners, and government agencies: utilizes these relationships as an avenue to assist the community in achieving its health and wellness goals and objectives.
- Respects cultural protocols and acknowledges and embraces the diversity of knowledge systems.
- Serves as a liaison, connector and convener between the community and its health system partners.
- Advises Nation administration leadership on enhancing health and wellness programs to support self-determination.
- Supports the Health Director in collaborating and partnering with the FNHDA, FNHA, FNHC, Regional Health Authorities, and Nation Assemblies to build effective partnerships that will improve the health and wellness of the community they serve by being an active member at applicable meetings.
- Collaborates with health system partners to identify and address community health and wellness opportunities and challenges.
- Communicates effectively with community members and diverse partners about health opportunities and challenges.
- Verifies the identity and credentials of employees/contractors who have access to personal information.
- Approves access to personal information and/or community information based on ‘need to know, least privilege’ principles as set out by the Nation’s privacy and security policies.
- Ensures access to personal information is disabled immediately after an individual no longer requires access to it.
- Performs audit reviews alongside the Director of Operations.
- Supports the monitoring of effectiveness of the privacy and security policy and procedures.
- Supports clients in completing the Request for Information form.
- Incorporates data accuracy and completeness for procedures in day-to-day work.
